Kenneth Gelfand, PhD
Dr. Gelfand has been practicing psychology in the Severna Park area since 2004. He specializes in the treatment of children and adolescents with autism-spectrum disorders (including Aspergers Disorder and Nonverbal Learning Disability), ADHD, anxiety and oppositional defiant disorder. Treatment often involves helping to reduce behavioral difficulties, improve academic performance, and build appropriate social skills through cognitive-behavioral techniques. The majority of therapy with Dr. Gelfand is family based and relies on caretakers being significant participants.
Dr. Gelfand completed his undergraduate work at Johns Hopkins University and received his doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of Maryland Baltimore County. He completed a pre-doctoral internship in pediatric psychology at the Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, Delaware, and a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Florida Health Sciences Center, specializing in anxiety and children with diabetes. In addition to his work at Thinking Tree Psychology, Dr. Gelfand serves at the Director of Outpatient Psychology Services at Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital. He also holds a clinical appointment in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Maryland School of Medicine.
